Lady Bird - Cinematography

This is a title sequence for the movie Lady Bird. I filmed all the footage using a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, and the post-production, including color correction, editing, and motion graphics, was completed in Premiere Pro and After Effects. The concept of this project explores the feelings of confusion and identity crisis that often accompany growth, and how change is a process that does not mean forgetting who we were, but rather embracing our pasts in order to evolve.

Style Frames

I developed the style frames in Illustrator and then brought them into Photoshop for color correction. Once I was happy with how everything looked and felt more like a whimsical journey, I started thinking about how to create the transitions I had in mind. I realized that to really show that sense of traveling, I needed dynamic camera movement. That’s when I decided the best way to approach it was by turning the style frames into a 3D animation. The next step was to figure out how to match or even better the looks I had produced in 2D Into 3D.
